As Seen on Skype

I'm a great lover of technology, not only because I find it fascinating, but because it makes life - generally - easier. With both of us living so far away from our families and friends, Skype is a super great way to keep in touch. We all have webcams, so it's more than a just a phone call - we can see what's going on in each other's lives.

Here are a few shots taken from some recent conversations with my parents. This is normal phone conversation behaviour, right?

Liverpool

I'm finally and slowly making my way through a month of photographs, working backwards. We went over to Liverpool the first weekend in April to visit Jens & Prinitha before they left for South Africa. We had a great time visiting and doing a bit of city sightseeing.

Liverpool is a funny place. It has some amazing, spectacularly grand buildings and architecturally you can tell that it was a really wealthy city at one point. But there are some very serious areas of depravation (no photos as I was the co-pilot, navigating a very confusing city) and on the whole, it felt ever so slightly run down and without a real identity.

That said, it is/was the home of the Beatles, so we took in a few tourist spots - namely the Cavern Club - and saw the impressive Albert Dock. We also did the ubiquitous open-top bus tour, went to the slavery museum, and had both a fantastic meal in (Prinitha did amazing Indian food) and out (at Puschka).

A Victorian Fireplace Reborn

I was looking at the little fireplace in our bedroom the other day and thought it would look so much better with a little colour.

Right now, it's just black-washed, so you can't really see any of the cute flower details. I had some tester pots left over in the perfect colours, so this morning, I dug out my little brushes and went to work.

Even Dr. Skeptic was impressed. I discovered as I was painting that there are opium poppies dotted around the flowers (which don't look like poppies themself - more like some kind of daisy). If Mother Nature won't bring us spring this year, I'll just create it myself!

New Project (Holding Page)

As sure as those daffodils start to bloom, spring time means project time in the Pedersen house. We've been super busy lately and I've yet to get around to collating photos from our various activities, but that hasn't stopped me from looking for a new project.

I liberated this amazing table from a skip nearby when Tina & Amy were over. We were walking by and it just called my name. And who doesn't need a new table?! This one is solid and quite sweet. I've already ordered the paint & stripper from my favourite eco-friendly paint store. We've got blue skies and the weekend is just around the corner - let's get started!
