Believe it or not, we've now had Rosie for 1 year. She's been so much fun! We are amazed at how quickly she fit in with Pedersen life. Recently, she started howling at the sirens. It amuses us to no end. So, here's a little sample of her at work:

Project Time!
Another month, another project. I've been on the scout for some dressers/chest of drawers to refurnish and found this diamond-in-the-rough on Freecycle. As the name implies, everything's free! This super sweet boy & his dad even delivered the dresser to our place, cos as amazing as the Fiesta is, it definitely wouldn't fit in it!
As you can see, it's a real mess - externally. The structure is sound, though, and wood is very forgiving. So I'm doing the usual strip and then stain/oil job. Thus far, I've just done the frame and now am starting on the drawers. Should be fun!
Top Tip:
If you've got stinky drawers (like we have with this dresser, which had been filled with gardening stuff, sitting in a garage) or just like to have things smell nice, you can make your own drawer liners. I like to have something on the drawer bottom anyway - I mean, it's where my clean clothes are going, right? Here's what you do:
*roll of plain (i.e. not pasted) wallpaper
*essential oils (I like lavander, but there are hundreds of different scents you can use)
*cut paper to drawer size
*sprinkle a few drops of oil on the paper
*roll and leave in a bag for a few hours
*et voila! nice smelling liners that are chemical-scent-free!

Linn of Dee
I was working on Saturday, doing stuff for Doors Open Day out Deeside, and part of our journey (Joni joined me because she was doing a poster drop for the Sound Festival), took us to the Linn of Dee. Neither of us had been there before, so we had a brief ramble around. It was really beautiful, although these photos don't really show that (bit of a wash-out).

Ta-da!
Being unable to agree if our next move should be to Edinburgh or London, we've settled on Newcastle-upon-Tyne instead - almost, but not quite, the half-way point.
Our heads are still spinning from the whirlwind week, but in short, Ole has been offered (and accepted) a lectureship at the Law School at the University of Newcastle. He went down on Tuesday, gave a presentation, went out to dinner with faculty and other candidates, interviewed on Wednesday and by time we were heading out the door that night for evening walkies, he had received a phone call from the Head offering the position. The city was wonderful; the staff, super nice; the position, pefect (in environmental law); the offer, clinched it.
Following a more detailed conversation with the Head today, Ole was told that the Law School were so impressed with him that they want to sign him onto their books straight away.They are also providing a generous relocation package, which will be a great help.
We are still trying to get to grip with the sudden turn of events and to reorient our lives, so bear with us as we have more questions than you probably do. But we'll do our best to keep you informed. Suffice to say, we're both excited about this next step and for the adventure it brings.

The Last Dinner
Well, Derek leaves this week for New Orleans (Joni's sticking around to finish out some projects at work), so we had them around last night to say good-bye, which is impossibly hard so we just didn't mention it. I thought it would be fun to have a Scottish meal that wasn't Haggis, neeps & tatties. So, we had smoked mackerel pate (which I made from the smoked mackerel Bob & Lynne did - see earlier post) on oatcakes to start; roasted lamb (with garlic & rosemary), stuffed courgettes and fresh allotment potatoes for the main; and finished with apple crumble.
During the feasting, Bob came round to say he had caught another 9 (!!) mackerel and would we like some. So, the boys had a fun time gutting a couple of them.

The other weekend, we went out to see Brian & Lee-Ann and their funcy new hoose. It was great catching up with them and, of course, checking out their house and garden area. We went for a walk, fed some cows and enjoyed the misty, foggy summer's eve.
