The first was a simple paint job on an old night stand. I got it when at a jumble sale we were living in Aberdeen and originally had stripped and varnished it. But I never liked the colour and the varnish made it sticky. So I sanded it down, threw on a coat of primer and a couple coats of paint, and ta-da! It's looking good. I reused the drawer pulls too - just removed the faceplate and left the pulls. I rather like it.
The second was more involved - unexpectedly. I'd been looking for a rocking chair for some time and finally found one in the classifieds I liked. Initially, I thought it would be a simple cushion cover change. But soon realised it was going to be a full blown project. The lady said her grandmother got it in Denmark many years ago and it's really a lovely, sturdy, super comfy, solid wood chair. But unfortunately, it seemed that the people I bought it from decided very recently to paint it. Not that the colour was bad - I rather liked it white. But it was a rubbish paint job and it STUNK. So we decided to strip it. Initially, we thought we'd repaint it white. But after spending many weekends and evenings sanding the paint off, we discovered the wood was a beautiful, light beech. So we decided to leave it bare.
Which meant we had to spend even more time trying to get the paint out of the crevices. We mostly succeeded.
I then got a non-toxic cushion while we were back home and cut that to size, laying it on top of the original one for added comfort, and sewed a new cushion cover. Pretty pleased how that turned out. I then applied natural beeswax to the wood to protect it. Quite simple, really. It took about 5 minutes before Ole was using it.
So, that's 2 down, 2 to go.
