Fiddles at the Sage

On Wednesday we saw another fantastic show at the Sage. We've become fans of the BBC production Transatlantic Sessions over the past year and discovered that they had taken the show on the road, literally. Since it didn't work to go to Celtic Connections this year, this was the next best thing.

First best thing about the Sage - the location: Right on the banks of the Tyne. Here are a few photos of the High Level Bridge and the Millennium Bridge, all lit up.

Second reason why I love the Sage is because it's an amazing piece of modern architecture. Joni & I also think it looks like Kenny from "South Park." At least from the outside.

Inside is just stunning - layers of curves and lights.

We're waiting for the show to start and taking in the view. I got tickets in December and there weren't a whole lot left. But we lucked out with middle row seats, albeit in the top tier.

Our view - The centre hall (where we were) is lined with gorgeous wood. Quite a cosy feel. And the acoustics are brilliant!

The bare stage - set up kinda like a living room, with sofas and such, just like the show.

The line up was pretty amazing - Aly Bain, Dan Tyminski, Sara Watkins, Tim O’Brien, Darrell Scott, Eddi Reader, Karen Matheson, Jerry Douglas, Russ Barenberg, John Doyle, Bruce Molsky, Phil Cunningham, Cara Dillon, James Mackintosh, Donald Shaw, Danny Thompson and Michael McGoldrick. So pretty much a who's who of Irish, Scottish & American folk music.

That was such an amazing building to view on the outside when we walked past it! Great to see photos of the inside :) What an exciting venture!
