Last weekend we ventured out from Newcastle to explore the seaside. We have this great book that links walks with Metro stops - great for us car-less folks.
We took the Metro from our West Jesmond stop to Whitley Bay, where we looped the little quarry that is now a nature park. Then we headed out along the sea. We walked from there to Tynemouth, passing through Cullercoats, about 5 miles total. The day was beautiful and sunny, although at times the sea mist was on our heels.
At Tynemouth, we made good use of our English Heritage passes and visited the Priory & Castle. We loved the town - great laid-back atmosphere, stunning views, proper beach town. Too bad it's so expensive to live in.
