Cruisin' the River Tyne

We were invited to join Ole's colleague David and his wife Eleanor for a river cruise last night with the Cambridge-Northumbria Friendship Society. David is an alumna and the Society puts on various social events throughout the year for former Cambridgeians in the North East. As the university is celebrating its 800th anniversary this year, they did something extra special and hired a boat for a river cruise.

Managed to get some crackin shots of the bridges. The Millennium Bridge opened especially for us! It was a great evening, meeting folks and, well, cruising.

That's must've been really incredible to watch the bridge open as you passed under. Does it move as one piece? Or just the bottom come up?

Not quite, Dad!

Jon - the whole thing just moves in one piece. They call it the blinking eye and that's kinda what it looks like.
