Weekend in Northumberland

When we announced we were moving to Newcastle, without fail, everyone here said, "Oh, you'll like it there. The people are so nice." Well, they really are. We're not even both permanently down there yet and already have had a weekend away with some of Ole's colleagues.

Joanna invited us for dinner on Saturday at her & Simon's place waaaaay out in the sticks. Because it was so far out, they said we should stay the night. As it turned out, those dinner guests (10 of us total) who didn't live local also stayed, so it was good fun. Simon cooked this amazing venison (killed the day before!) stew in the Aga. Melt in your mouth!

The next morning, we trailed Joanna to feed the lambs and cows. Rosie especially liked that part. She's decided she suits the country life. The scenery was stunning - sorta like the Highlands, but with more trees. And the colours - I'm telling you, New England has nothing on Olde England!

I love this: "Little historical information is available about Alwinton prior to 1245"
Sounds like a beautiful, almost fictional, weekend!
